Data Destruction

Protecting your data doesn’t end when a device leaves your office. CHROMA provides certified data destruction for every device we handle - included at no cost for standalone pickups, and available as a standalone service.

Included Free With Every Pickup

Unlike most ITAD providers, we include data destruction at no additional charge. Competitors typically charge per drive - we absorb that cost so you don’t have to. Your devices are wiped or destroyed before anything else happens to them.

Our Methods

Software Wipe - NIST SP 800-88 Compliant

We use ShredOS to perform standard NIST SP 800-88 compliant overwrites on all storage media. This meets the data sanitization standard for most regulated industries, including life sciences, financial services, and legal.

Physical Destruction

For drives requiring physical destruction, we partner with a downstream business for certified hard drive shredding.

What You Receive

  • Per-drive PDF wipe report - automatically generated with PDF number, wipe method, and result for every drive

  • Full asset tracking spreadsheet - every drive logged from intake through destruction

  • Certificate of destruction

This documentation package is audit-ready and suitable for NIST, SOX, FACTA, and similar compliance requirements.

Standalone Data Destruction

Need drives wiped or destroyed without a full ITAD package? We offer standalone data destruction at our facility. Drop off your drives or arrange pickup - pricing available on request.

FAQ

What types of media do you handle?

Hard drives (HDD and SSD), USB drives, and data-bearing storage media. For drives that cannot be wiped (failed, encrypted without key, etc.), we resort to physical destruction.

Can I be present for the destruction?

For standalone data destruction jobs, we can accommodate witness destruction by appointment. Contact us to arrange.

Is software wiping as secure as physical destruction?

NIST SP 800-88 compliant software wiping is the accepted standard for data sanitization and is appropriate for the vast majority of business use cases. Physical shredding is recommended for highly sensitive environments or when drives are damaged. We’ll recommend the right method based on your needs.
